Carpet Cleaning & Maintenance

•The best way to ensure long-lasting beauty, comfort and durability in your carpet is to vacuum it regularly, as it prevents soil from becoming embedded in the carpet’s pile.

•Depending on the type of carpet you have, you’ll want to use a vacuum with a rotating brush, a beater bar or suction only. If you have shag or high pile carpet, use a suction-only vacuum cleaner with no beater bar.

•Use scissors to clip sprouts and snags; do not pull them or you may damage the carpet.

•To remove a dent caused by heavy furniture, stroke carpet with the edges of a coin. You can also use a hair dryer to gently raise the dented area while you tug upward on the tufts.

•If your carpet is burned, remove the tops of the dark, burnt fibers with curved fingernail scissors. If the burn is extensive, the carpet may require patching or replacement.

•If flooding occurs from a burst pipe, washing machine overflow or other leak, the carpet needs to be dried, front and back, by a professional cleaner with the proper equipment.

•Consider professional cleaning every 12-18 months.  Experienced, professional cleaners have specialized equipment that has more extraction power than do-it-yourself rental units. Floors From Home will be happy to help you maintain your carpet.

Hardwood Flooring Maintenance
Cleaning your Hardwood floor:

•Step one: Sweep your floor to remove any partials that could scratch your floor

•Step two: Apply hard surface cleaner directly to a terry cloth flooring mop, not to the floor.

•Step three: Use a back and forth motion with the mop.  When terry cloth becomes soiled, simply replace it with a new one.  Cleaning the floor with a soiled cover could cause streaking.

Hardwood Flooring Do's

•Sweep regularly

•Remove spills promptly using a hard surface wood cleaner and a white cloth

•Use felt protectors on heavy furniture and chairs

•Keep animals nails trimmed

•High quality entry and exit mats will help collect the dirt, moisture, grime, and sand  that can damage your laminate floor.

Hardwood Flooring Don'ts

Do not use oil based, wax, polish, or strong ammoniated or abrasive cleaners.

Do not use steel wool or scouring powder.

Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar or rotary brush

Do not wash or wet-mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material. This could cause swelling, warping, delaminating, and joint-line separation, and void the warranty.

Do not use any type of buffing machine.

Do not slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances on floor

Stain Removal Tips
•A wet/dry vacuum cleaner is the best way to effectively remove stains. Use the attachment with the best suction and vacuum as much of the stain as possible, continuing to add water to the stain as you go.

•If detergent is required, use it sparingly and gently rinse the area with water while moving the vacuum wand back and forth. Use a towel to absorb all moisture.

•If spot removal solvent is necessary, apply several drops to a clean white cloth and blot the carpet in an inconspicuous area. If a color change occurs or color transfers to the cloth, consult a professional carpet cleaner. Place towels or cloth over wet area and weight with a heavy, colorfast object to absorb moisture. Leave overnight.

•If stains remain after cleaning, moisten the tufts in the stained area with 3% hydrogen peroxide and let stand for one hour. Blot and repeat until carpet is stain-free. No rinsing is necessary. Apply a pad of paper towels and weigh them down, allowing carpet to dry.

Laminate Flooring Care

Although Laminate Flooring is known for its durability, caring for your flooring in the right way will help it to look great for  years.

Basic Cleaning Guidelines:

•Remove loose dirt by using a non beater bar vacuum or a dust mop.

•Use any reputable laminate floor cleaner. Follow recommended guidelines & avoid the use of water.

•Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, soap based detergents, waxes, polishes, or scouring powder because they may scratch or dull the flooring surface.

•Wipe up spills immediately. Avoid allowing liquids to stand on your floor.

•Do not use any type of buffing machine.

•Use Protective Mats: High quality entry and exit mats will help collect the dirt, moisture, grime, and sand that can damage your laminate floor.

•Use Protectors on Furniture: Place glides or floor protectors under furniture legs. For items on caster wheels, use only clean, seamless plastic wheels to prevent scratches.

•Frequently Vacuum: Frequently vacuum using a non-beater bar vacuum cleaner or dust mop to remove dirt and grime.
